MA Communication Design graduate from the University of Dundee with art teaching experience for learners aged 7–14 in China and the UK. Skilled in creative curriculum development, visual teaching material design and cross-cultural arts activities. My practice spans visual communication, branding, illustration and traditional arts, with a particular interest in art and design learning for ages 11–14. I aim to encourage artistic expression and visual thinking through creative, participatory and student-centred teaching.

Paper Fan & Chinese Culture: Classroom Case

20 students · 40 minutes · Chinese and English

A compact cultural craft lesson connecting the history of Chinese fans with language learning and hands-on making.

LEARNING GOAL
Recognise the cultural role of folding fans and complete an individual paper fan.
TEACHING METHOD
Guided questions, a short video, bilingual vocabulary and a step-by-step demonstration.
OUTCOME
Every student completed a fan and could describe key ideas from the lesson.

Vince uses real objects, visual references and short demonstrations to make unfamiliar subjects easier for young learners to understand.

A real daffodil collected nearby became the class reference. Students observed its structure before translating the flower into simple drawing steps.

Dundee Chinese New Year Gala

Art, culture and patient guidance

Vince Xiao is a Communication Design graduate and an art educator with teaching experience in China and the UK.

His lessons combine drawing, craft and Chinese cultural themes with clear visual materials. He values patient demonstration, active participation and room for each child to make individual choices.
